Cross-Strait Agricultural Exchange Association Inaugurated in Beijing

The Cross-Strait Agricultural Exchange Association was established in Beijing on January 15. Wan Baorui, vice-minister of Agriculture, was elected president of the association.

The founding of this association marks the entry of cross-Strait agricultural cooperation into a new stage. The association, composed of representatives of agricultural circle and personages from enterprises and institutions engaged in and enthusiastic about cross-Strait exchange and cooperation, will devote its efforts to promoting contacts between agriculturists from the two sides of the Straits and developing cross-Strait agricultural exchange and cooperation.

After over 10 years of extensive exchanges, agriculturists from both sides have made fruitful cooperation in various fields. Agriculture of the two sides is highly complementary in the aspects such as natural resources, regional space, capital, technology, market, and labor force.

According to the association, strengthening cross-Strait agricultural exchanges and cooperation will help promote a reasonable allocation of agricultural production factors and enhance production capacity and competitiveness.
