Equitable and Rational Globalization: Nitin Desai:
Nitin Desai, Undersecretary-General of UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, expressed his concern and support to globalization to "have an equitable and rational" world order during his trip to the Second Globalization Forum held January 12-14 in Sanya City, Hainan Province.
Nitin Desai highly praised the forum's purport of "equality, mutual benefit, win-win, and coexistence" on economic globalization.
He said people have reached a common view that globalization is an unavoidable trend, so some principles of international organizations, trade principles and even our economic management forms will have to be accordingly changed during the globalization process.
Meanwhile some important impacts and consequences may be found in the course of changes in which some countries may benefit from this trend and some others may be weakened or become more vulnerable under the strong impact of economic globalization.
Nitin Desai also emphasized that all countries should lose no time to make most of the opportunities offered and be actively with this irreversible trend of globalization. During the globalization process, the forum's purport of "equality, mutual benefit, win-win, and coexistence" should be highly advocated, strengthened global cooperation developed and assistance to developing countries provided by the developed nations in the move to create a situation of common prosperity.
When talking about China's role and status in globalization, Nitin Desai said that human resources make the biggest potential force contributing to a nation's development especially to a rise of the developing countries during the globalization process. As the biggest developing country, China has absolute advantages on its human resources, so China should have an active part in this process. As to China's entry into the WTO, it will be in a way to greatly boost global trade cooperation for it is not only the aspiration of China but of other countries. In a word, China should give full play to its role as the biggest developing country in the world, he urged.
