The Chinese nation is experiencing drastic changes and social reform, and writers should reflect the change and reform in their works. The CASS Institute of Literature invited well-known writers and scholars including Zhang Xianliang, Su Shuyang, Bi Shumin, Ling Li, Zhang Ping, and Lu Tianming, to participate in the discussion. Su, a member of the Chinese Writers' Association, said that cultivation of modern Chinese culture must comply with the development logic of traditional Chinese culture. All writers should try to expose their readers to healthy and correct philosophical thoughts and values, said Bi. Ling, a research professor at the People's University of China, suggested that academic circles should help improve cultural progress among people. Jiang Lansheng, vice president of the CASS, and Yang Yi, director of the CASS institute, also attended the discussion.
