Turkey, DPRK Kicks off Normalization Process of Ties

Officials from Turkey and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a meeting Monday on normalization of relations between the two countries, the Anatolia News Agency reported.

The officials met in the Turkish Embassy in Beijing, China, and signed a memorandum of understanding on the two countries' desire to get to know each other well, the news agency quoted a statement issued by the Turkish Embassy in Beijing as saying.

The statement stressed that the rapprochement process between the DPRK and South Korea would contribute to the peace and stability in the region.

Under the memorandum of understanding, Turkey and the DPRK will work toward normalization of relations and in due course establish diplomatic ties and appoint ambassadors reciprocally.

During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on issues of terrorism and spreading of missiles, as well as regional and international issues.

Turkey, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, has diplomatic relations with South Korea.
