Cholera Outbreak Ravages City in Central ZambiaCholera has ravaged Kabwe, a city in Zambia's Central Province, killing three people and hospitalizing about 100 in the past two weeks, Times of Zambia reported on Monday. The Makululu cholera center in the city has been overcrowded by patients and nurses there overwhelmed by the surging cases, the newspaper said. Gavin Silwamba, director general of the Central Board of Health, was quoted as saying that the city should be put on cholera alert due to the degree of the problem. "The water from taps actually looks brownish. This makes the fight against cholera more difficult. Cholera may soon spread to neighboring Kapiri Mposhi and several parts of Zambia," the official said, blaming the dirty water as one of the causes for the cholera outbreak. |
