China Red Cross Aids Snow Disaster Victims in Inner MongoliaChina Red Cross Society (CRCS) provided 1.5 million yuan (approximately US$181,000) in money and materials to help with snow disaster relief efforts in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region recently, announced a CRCS official Monday.After providing 1,000 quilts worth 55,000 yuan (approximately US$6,600) to Inner Mongolia, the society provided 95,000 yuan (approximately US$11.400) to buy quilts and shoes for the victims. China Red Cross Society also briefed International Red Cross Organization and Red Cross Society of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on the situation in Inner Mongolia. Up to now, China Red Cross Society received donations from International Red Cross Organization, Red Cross Society of the Hong Kong SAR, Beijing Red Cross Society and Red Cross Society of the United States. During the period from December 31, 2000 to January 3,2001, Xilin Gol and Xing'an areas were caught in rare snowstorms and sandstorms. Around 947,000 people from 18 counties were affected by the disaster, with an estimated economic loss of 910 million yuan (approximately 109 million dollars).
