Shanghai Released "Golden Watercourse" Construction Schemes

To build the Huangpu River into a de facto "golden watercourse" Shanghai January 11 unveiled three construction schemes by way of international competitive bidding and through oncoming appraisal, with specialists' opinions sought, the ultimate winner will be revealed by March or April.

The Huangpu River, as has been generally reported, is a major golden watercourse representative of Shanghai but no land structures erected on the banks of the watercourse contribute to the beauty of the city for lack of unified planning or construction. As Lujiazui Financial Trade Zone has become increasingly important in Shanghai, the riverside area of the Huangpu River, especially the area between Yangpu and Nanpu Bridges, will acquire a new greater role. New schemes and unified plans likewise have to be sought to back this up.

The three "golden watercourse" construction schemes released January 11 are from the joint designing group of US SASAKI and BAZO, US SOM, and COX of Australia.
