Ethiopia Denies Link in Border AttackThe Ethiopian government has declared that it had nothing to do with the border attack in Moyale District in northern Kenya that left 10 Kenyans dead on Thursday, the Sunday Standard newspaper reported.Ethiopia denies allegations that their militia shot dead eight Kenyan security personnel and two civilians in Uran Division along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, the Ethiopian embassy in Nairobi, capital of Kenya, was quoted as saying on Saturday. The embassy described the allegations as "fiction", saying Ethiopian militia did not cross the border at all. The Kenyan security officers were reportedly ambushed and killed as they visited a village to reassure villagers of security following a recent attack in which some villagers were abducted by bandits from across the border. The attack brought the number of Kenyans killed in similar circumstances to 150. According to Maurice Makhanu, North Eastern Provincial Commissioner of Kenya, the Kenyan government is reviewing the situation before an official statement is issued. Makhanu has been chairing the Kenya-Ethiopia border peace meetings. Meanwhile, Maraden Madoka, Kenyan Minister of State in the Office of the President, who is in charge of internal security, said on Friday that stringent measures will be taken against the assailants. |
