US Delegation to Arrive in Baghdad Saturday: INAA 50-member US delegation headed by former Attorney-General Ramsey Clark is expected to arrive in Baghdad later Saturday by a chartered plane from Jordanian capital Amman, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.This will be the first US delegation to fly to Baghdad since 1990, the INA said, adding that the delegation will also bring humanitarian goods for Iraqi people. By doing so, Clark is challenging the decade-old air embargo imposed on Iraq by the US and Britain following its invasion of Kuwait in 1990, INA said. During their stay in Iraq, the delegation will investigate the impacts of the depleted uranium shells used by the US during the 1991 Gulf War on Iraq's environment and the health of the people, INA added. Iraq has repeatedly condemned the US for dropping hundreds of tons of depleted uranium shells in the south and other parts of the country, which it said caused environmental disaster to the country. There have been reports on a sharp increase of cancer patients in the country since the Gulf War. Iraq has demanded compensation from the US and Britain for the damage caused by their use of depleted uranium shells in air attacks against the country. |
