Cuba Holds US Responsible for Death of Illegal Cuban Migrants

Cuba has charged that the United States is responsible for the death of two young Cubans who last December tried to illegally migrate to the US, a media report said in Havana Friday.

The event is a consequence of the Cuban Adjustment Law, issued by the U.S. in 1966, which gives legal residence and labor conditions to Cubans arriving in U.S. territory by any means, specialists was quoted by the report as saying.

On December 14, two young Cubans, Alberto Vasquez, 17 and Maikel Fonseca, 16, tried to illegally get out of the island in the landing gear of a British commercial airplane flying from Havana to London. The two died of hypothermia, said specialists.

One of the boys left a farewell letter, in which he said he was going to the U.S. , where a friend of his promised him a job, and that he would return soon.

The report said there was no indication these students of the Military School "Camilo Cienfuegos" of Havana had desired to go out of Cuba.
