Northern City Supplies Hong Kong with High-Quality Cattle
Tongliao, a city in the northern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, exported over 2,530 heads of cattle to Hong Kong last year, making a profit of US$1.8 million.
The city, a cattle production base in China, has been focusing on developing its cattle raising industry since it was granted the approval of a living cattle exports business by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation in 1998.
Until now, nearly 5,000 farming households there are engaged in raising cattle, and the local cattle exports-oriented foreign trade companies have built a smooth and easy channel connecting the farmers and Hong Kong.
In the last three years, the city has sent over 4,700 heads of cattle to the Hong Kong market.
