China Vows to Block Entry of Unqualified Overseas ProductsChinese State Council Wu Yi said Friday, January 12, that China will never allow unqualified overseas products to enter the country in a bid to safeguard national interests, protect the health of the general public, and ensure environmental and agricultural security.She made the remark at a two-day national meeting on entry-exit inspection and quarantine, which closed Friday, efforts should also be made to better prepare for China's expected accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Wu said. That includes cleaning up existing laws and regulations according to WTO regulations, and improving law enforcement in order to make China's entry-exit inspection and quarantine work adaptable to the international norms and agreements. Last year, goods valued at about 200 billion U.S. dollars were examined by the country's entry-exit inspection and quarantine organizations, of which 1.2 billion U.S. dollars' worth of goods were found unqualified and dangerous living things were found during several thousand exams. In addition, about 70,000 out of 1 million people entering or leaving China were found to have infectious diseases. Qian Guanlin, director of General Administration of Customs, and Li Changjiang, director of State Administration for Entry- Exit Inspection and Quarantine, were among those present at the meeting. |
