CCB Scores Record Profit for 2000

The China Construction Bank (CCB) announced Friday, January 12, that in 2000 it scored a profit of 8.49 billion yuan, an increase of 1.12 billion yuan or 15.3 percent over the previous year, setting a new record in its history.

Of the total profit, 96 million yuan came from overseas businesses while 8.39 billion yuan came from domestic businesses, according to Wang Xuebing, president of the CCB.

Addressing the bank's annual working meeting here today, Wang said that the bank's increase in profit is largely attributable to the new management concept initiated at the beginning of last year, which focuses on corporate business, individual banking, real estate financing and intermediate services.

Wang said that last year the bank's lending increased by 223 billion yuan, up 62.9 billion yuan from the previous year; its intermediate services brought in a net profit of 2.6 billion yuan, up 1.1 billion yuan; inter-bank deposits increased 94.1 billion yuan, accounting for 29 percent for its total newly increased deposits.
