Consultations Held Among UNSC Permanent Members

Officials from foreign ministries of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held consultations in Shanghai on January 8 as part of the follow-up activities to last year's summit meeting of the five nations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao Thursday told a news conference that consultations were held among directors of the international departments of the five foreign ministries.

During the talks, presided over by Chinese officials, participants held broad and in-depth discussions on a range of issues including the summit follow-up, the Iraqi issue and the UN peacekeeping, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

Participants agreed that the consultation is of great importance and is a necessary part of the re-cap of the summit meeting of the UNSC members, said the spokesman.
