Australia's National News Agency Gets New Chief Executive

Australia's national news agency, the Australian Associated Press Information Services (AAPIS) Pty Ltd, Friday announced British businessman Clive Marshall as the company's new chief executive.

Marshall, 43, currently the commercial director at Britain's national news agency, the Press Association (PA) Ltd in London, will take over from Barry Wheeler who has been AAPIS acting chief executive for more than a year.

AAPIS Chairman Michael Gill said Marshall had been with the PA since 1993, taking up his most recent position in 1999 after a two- year term as chief executive of Two-Ten Communications, a PA affiliate.

"Our board has conducted a careful and extensive search for the right person to take AAPIS into a new era of growth and development," Gill said.

"Clive's experience and personal qualities are, we think, exactly the right combination for AAPIS at this time," he said.

Gill said Wheeler had decided to leave AAPIS after long service with the company in a variety of senior roles.

Marshall will take up his new position on March 12.
