Beijing Metro to Charge Service Fees by Riding MileageBeijing metro will charge passengers a service fee based on riding mileage instead of a par-value slip of printed matter. The riding service will be charged after the three new routes including the Light Rail, Bawangfen-Tongzhou section and the No.5 line are completed in the near future.According to Beijing Evening News, all the three soon-to-open metro routes, as well as the existing loop line and No. 1 line, will adopt the mileage charging system. The new fare system, bound to the passengers' affordability, will not huff the whole level of the metro price, says an official with the Beijing Subway Corporation. At present, the mileage charging system is only adopted in Shanghai's metro service. It is said that magcards will possibly be introduced when the new charging system takes effective. And a special research institute has been established in Beijing to delve into a viable operational system promoting city-wide use of magcards. By PD Online staff member Huang Ying
