Chinese FM Ends Successful Visit to Libya
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan left Tripoli Thursday evening for the Central Africa Republic after winding up a two-day official visit to Libya.
He was seen off at Tripoli Military Airport by Libyan Minister of Foreign Communication and International Cooperation Abdul-Rahman Mohammed Shalgam and other senior Libyan official.
Tang said he had "listened attentively to Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's analysis of regional and international issues and ideas on enhancing Sino-Libyan ties and Sino-African cooperation during their meeting.
He also held "cordial and sincere talks" with Shalgam and other senior Libyan officials and that the views of both sides were identical on many issues, Tang told Xinhua before departure.
The two sides agreed to make more efforts to work out effective measures to strengthen cooperation in various fields in the new century, Tang said, adding that his visit was a "complete success." "The visit provided me with the opportunity of seeing the great achievements made by the Libyan people in the fields of safeguarding national independence and sovereignty, developing economy and raising people's standards of living," he added.
The Chinese minister expressed confidence that the bilateral friendship and cooperation would be further strengthened in the future under the personal care of the leaders of both countries.
"The cooperation between China and Libya will contribute greatly to deepening friendship between China and Africa and promoting South-South cooperation," he added.
