China's Top Legislator Continues India VisitChina's top legislator Li Peng flew in New Delhi from Mumbai Thursday noon to continue his week-long official goodwill visit to India, as the guest of Chairman Krishan Kant of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament and Speaker G.M.C. Balayogi of the House of the People.Later Thursday, Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), is expected to meet Kant, Balayogi and leaders of various parties in the Indian Parliament. During his stay in New Delhi, Li will also meet with the Indian president and prime minister and exchange views with them on bilateral relations and other issues of common interest. Arriving aboard the same plane included Li's wife, Zhu Lin, and vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Buhe. This is Li's first visit to India as the NPC Standing Committeechairman and an exchange of another high-level visit between China and India following President Jiang Zemin's state visit to India in 1996 and Indian President Kocheril Raman Narayanan's trip to China in May 2000. Li's ongoing visit is to enhance trust, boost friendship and strengthen cooperation between the two countries and continue the healthy and sound development of Sino-Indian relations. New Delhi is the second leg of Li's four-city India tour, which will also take him to Agra and Bangalore. |
