Northwestern Border Station Sets Record on TaxationThe Alataw Railway Station in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region handled 4.11 million tons of cargo last year and collected 1.03 billion yuan in tax, a record high among border ports in northwest China.Alataw Station, the largest border railway station in western China, now ranks second among China's nine railway ports, according to local economic officials. Officials attributed the increased freight volume and tax to the improved administration, 24-hour checkout, opening of a service hotline, and the high working efficiency. Last year, port officials also uncovered 22 smuggling cases involving a total value of 24.1 million yuan. Alataw Pass, 90 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide, has been used as a passage linking China with Europe and central and western Asia since it opened in 1990. |
