Israel, Palestinians Agree to Reduce Confrontation

Palestinian and Israeli security officials agreed Wednesday night to reduce the bloody confrontation that has continued for over three months in the Palestinian territories.

The agreement was reached after several hours of consultations between Palestinian and Israeli security officials at the Erez checkpoint between Gaza Strip and Israel.

Mohamed Dahlan, Palestinian preventive security chief for Gaza Strip, Israeli Tourism Minister Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, Chief of Israeli General Security Services Avi Dichter and other security officials attended the meeting.

A Palestinian source said the meeting was "good and important" and the two sides would take some steps Thursday morning on the ground to reduce the level of violence.

An Israeli source in Jerusalem said what would happen on the ground would be the real test to the results of the meeting.

The Palestinian-Israeli clashes have killed some 370 people, mostly Palestinians, and injured thousands of the others.
