Corrupt Officials Punished in East China

A number of senior officials were punished last year for corruption and dereliction of duty in the eastern province of Shandong, according to the provincial supervision departments.

A joint communique, released Thursday by the Provincial Party Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Provincial Supervision Department, said they acted on about 70,000 tips last year, of which 11,200 cases were investigated and prosecuted.

Cases involving officials at the county level and higher numbered 304.

A total of 10,200 officials of various levels were punished in accordance with the Party and government disciplines. Others suspected of felony crimes were handed over to the judicial system, the communique said.
