Compilation of China's History of Publication Kicks Off

As an inventor of paper-making and type-printing, China has made world-renowned contributions to the publishing industry. However, there is not yet a systemic and authoritative annals on China's publishing industry. In view of this, the compilation work of a long-brewed General History of China's Publishing Industry has formally been started up recently.

At the work meeting for compilation initiated lately by China Institute of Publishing Science experts have thoroughly discussed the issues in relation to the compilation, including the collection and analysis of historical materials, structure and style of the book. A consensus has been reached that this collection should not only record the development of China's publishing industry, but also the interactive relations between the publications and social development in China and its roles and influence exerted upon China's social development.

Listed as a key project of China's publication work in the 9th Five-year Plan (1996-2000), the General History of China's Publishing Industry is to be completed in the earlier days of the 10th Five-year Plan period (2001-2005).
