Lhasa Has Cleaner Environment
Lhasa, capital of southwest China 's Tibet Autonomous Region, has made remarkable progress in controlling pollution.
According to figures from the city government, some 170 tons of the urban garbage in the city is now treated underground every day in suburbs before being discharged.
The city also carried out a series of regulations to control sewage discharge.
With increasing tourism and mushrooming construction projects, Lhasa has faced problems of air pollution, sewage discharge and garbage treatment.
To solve the problems, Lhasa has invested 4 million yuan in setting up pollution-control facilities for the city's cement plant, a major industrial dust polluter.
At the same time, the city invested over 50 million yuan to set up a sewage treatment plant which can handle 100,000 tons of sewage per day and a garbage treatment plant which can handle 2 million cubic meters of garbage.
