China Becomes Fourth Largest CT Maker

China has become the world's fourth largest CT producer with the initiation of GE Hangwei CT Co.'s new project, which has an annual capacity of 400 sets.

CT is a type of medical equipment used in the diagnosis of difficult and complicated cases in medical clinics.

According to a company source, the world total CT output each year is about 5,000 sets. Last year, China produced 700 CT sets and 500 of them were made by Hangwei, a Sino-U.S. joint venture involving GE.

China's CT export accounts for one tenth of the world's total.

Hangwei, the largest CT company in China, is expected to produce more than 650 CT sets this year and will complete a new workshop in 2002 to expand the total area of its production facility to 50,000 square meters.
