National Customs Officials Explain Customs Law in MacaoA group of Chinese officials with the General Administration of Customs (GAC) gave a lecture in Macao Wednesday to explain the revised Customs Law which took effect on January 1 this year.Headed by Sheng Guangzu, vice-director of the GAC, the officials talked about the objectives, significance and principles concerning the revision of Customs Law, and about the national customs cargo and taxation supervision mechanism. Trade between Macao and the inland areas of China has boomed in recent years. And the business gets more thriving since Macao's return to the motherland in December of 1999. In first ten months this year, trade volume between the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the inland areas reached 6. 7 billion patacas (US$837.5 million), exceeding all the yearly figures before. The team of officials is expected to give a similar lecture on China's Hong Kong SAR on Thursday. The Customs Law was first passed by China's top legislature in 1987. The revised version was passed in July last year. |
