Hong Kong: First Choice for MNC Headquarters in Asia-Pacific Region

A latest survey conducted by British Economist magazine shows that Hong Kong is still the first choice for MNCs to establish their headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region.

The magazine has investigated about 8,000 MNCs in North America, Europe and Japan in the past two years through its intelligence institutions. The result reveals that 35 percent of the entrepreneurs noted that they would list Hong Kong as their first choice if they were to establish their headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region, 30 percent would choose Singapore and only 9 percent preferred Tokyo.

The survey report published on January 8 pointed out that Hong Kong is the core zone for the operation of enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the report, after the financial storm, the economic gravity has gradually shifted northward from the south. This tendency will grow stronger in the years to come. Hong Kong's core position for headquarters operation in the Asia-Pacific region will appear to become increasingly important.

The report discloses that the main reason for entrepreneurs of MNCs to choose Hong Kong lies in its political stability, a sound system of rule by law and its closeness to the inland market. It has a strong network of specialized financial and service institutions. The report also pointed out that the condition characterized by excessively high prices, poor air quality and lack of high-tech talent in Hong Kong all remain to be improved.
