Mainland Academicians on Tour of Hong Kong

An academic delegation formed of 14 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 11 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and presidents from 5 key universities on the mainland has been on a visit to Hong Kong since January 8.

The visitors are all bellwethers of high repute for their academic contributions made in their own fields in China.

The academicians' visit aims to enhance Hong Kong-mainland academic cooperation and exchanges in science and of talents and probe in person into the function and social position of academic organizations and expertise in economic construction on the advent of knowledge economy both in the mainland and Hong Kong. In the meantime, how to push ahead Hong Kong's economy with advanced technology and what a favorable environment is to be created to enable Hong Kong's businessmen to participate in the mainland's construction by making most of expertise from the mainland are also targeted.

As reported, the academicians will also go personally on a visit to the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Civil Engineering Department of Hong Kong, Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
