Kostunica Meets Polish, Ukrainian PresidentsYugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica held talks Tuesday with his Polish and Ukrainian counterparts Aleksander Kwasniewski and Leonid Kuchma, Tanjug new agency reported."Yugoslavia's political intent is to keep its borders unchanged, which is very important to the stability of the Balkan region," said Kostunica after meeting with Kwasniewski. The new Yugoslav government will conform to the principle of international laws in dealing with neighboring countries, especially issues pertaining to the former Yugoslav republics, including the situation in Kosovo, the crisis in the Ground Safety Zone in southern Serbia, and ties between the two republics of the Yugoslav Federation, Kostunica said. Kwasniewski said that his visit is intended to promote all- round bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economy and culture. Poland is interested in helping Yugoslavia with its reconstruction, such as rebuilding bridges, roads and the power industry, he added. After the meeting with Kostunica, Kuchma said, "The stability of the Balkan region can be achieved only on condition of preserving the territorial integrity of Yugoslavia in keeping with Resolution 1244 of the U.N. Security Council." Kwasniewski and Kuchma, who arrived here Tuesday, also visited their countries' battalions in the U.N.-secured Serbian Kosovo province. |
