Man Sentenced to Death for Stealing Firearms

Cai Xueyuan, who was convicted of stealing firearms, was given death penalty Wednesday by the Intermediate People's Court of Zhengzhou, capital of central Henan Province.

Cai, 32, served at an armed police command from November 1998 to September 1999. During the period, he dug a 16-meter-long tunnel from underground a local weapon depot.

On September 23, 1999, Cai stole four mini-submachine guns from the storage.

In November 1999, Cai stole 520 bullets from an army shooting range.

With the guns and bullets, Cai carried out a series of armed robberies last year.

Local police arrested Cai and took over the weapons on November 2 last year.
