Foreign Enterprises, Major Part of China's E-Info Industry

Wei Jianguo, an assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation said January 7 in Las Vegas that foreign-invested enterprises have become a major part of China's electronic information industry with the support of a series of relevant State polices.

Wei made the remarks at the "Night of China", a news briefing on Chinese electronic information products held in Las Vegas of the United States jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) and the Ministry of Information Industry (MII).

He said that so far China has nearly 7,000 foreign-invested electronic enterprises, about 23 percent of the national total; the contracted foreign capital has amounted to over US$16 billion, and more than US$12 billion has been actually utilized.

He stressed that the Chinese government will create a better investment environment, strengthen IP protection and safeguard the legal rights and interests of foreign companies. Besides, China will actively promote the development of E-data exchange and E-business development, enlarge trading opportunities and help a group of MNC to establish in China joint ventures oriented toward the Asia-Pacific region as well as the whole world, thereby bringing them in line with the world economy.

It's reported that the news briefing was the first one ever held in the United States.

The International Consumer's Electronic Products Exhibition opened on January 6, sponsored by the American Consumers' Electronics Association, was the largest of its kind in the world. This was the fourth time that China sent a delegation to the exhibition. News from the Chinese delegation shows that China hopes to recommend to overseas clients its major electronic exporting enterprises as well as E-information products with international competitiveness to enhance their reputation and their overall images through participation in such exhibition and relevant activities.
