Iraq's UN-Monitoring Oil Sales Go Slow

Iraqi oil exports under the Untied Nations oil-for-food program were slow during the first week of 2001, according to the latest figures released Tuesday by the concerned UN office.

Iraq exported 1.8 million barrels of oil during the week beginning December 30, earning an estimated US$32 million.

The United Nations imposed sanctions on Iraq after its invasion of Kuwait in 1990.

Iraq suspended oil exports on November 30, 2000 after it failed to reach an agreement with the UN on the pricing formula for oil exports for December. However the dispute was solved in mid-December and oil exports resumed afterwards.
