Hamas Claims Responsibility for Car Bombing in Northern Israel

Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, claimed responsibility on Tuesday for a booby car blast in northern Israeli city of Netanya earlier this month.

A statement issued by Ezzeddin Kazzam, the military wing of Hamas, said Hamid Abu Hamza, a student of Al-Najah University in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, carried out the bomb attack on January 1, which injured at least 34 people.

Earlier Tuesday, Israeli police announced that the injured Arab in Netanya blast died of wounds on Monday, noting that he was suspected of carrying out the attack. But the Israeli police did not identify the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Military Intelligence chief, Moussa Arafat, has denied the claim that his organization was behind acts of vandalism against Israeli targets, including a bus bomb explosion in Tel Aviv.

Earlier this week, a senior Israeli security official alleged that officers under Moussa recruited a Jordanian national, who detonated a bomb on a bus in downtown Tel Aviv December 28, injuring at least 13 people.

Moussa told the Arabic-language daily Al Shark Al Awsat, which is based in London, on Monday that Israeli allegations were baseless.
