Fireworks to Light Up HK in Lunar New YearGlamorous fireworks will light up Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong, on January 25, the second day of the Chinese lunar new year, as a new year extravaganza for the public, an official said Tuesday.The fireworks display, an annual celebration of the Hong Kong people in the Chinese new year festival, will last 23 minutes in 12 acts, and bring the people "a new hope in the new century," said Chung Ling-hoi, Assistant Director of Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department. More colors and fireworks items will be added to Lunar New Year Fireworks Display 2001, making it more colorful and impressive compared with those in the previous years, said Stephen Tai Tak-fung, Chairman of Four Seas Mercantile Holdings Ltd, which has donated 7 million HK dollars (US$0.9 million) for this year's fireworks show. 22,888 pieces of fireworks will be discharged and members of the public can view the show on both sides of Victoria Harbor such as Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Central District, the Mid-levels and Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade. The fireworks display will be broadcast live on television and synchronized with music on Radio Television Hong Kong. |
