Guangdong Raises Prices for Highway, Water Transport

South China's Guangdong Province, which borders Hong Kong and Macao, has raised the ticket prices for highway and waterway transport as of Tuesday through February 17.

According to local sources, highway transport prices from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Foshan, Shunde and Hai'an Port to other areas of the province will be raised by 100 percent in the days running up to Spring Festival, while highway transport tickets from other areas to these cities will be hiked by 80 percent.

In the meantime, tickets for water transport will be raised by 60 percent, but prices for ferry services on Qiongzhou Straits, which connects Hainan Province with the Chinese mainland at Guangdong, will go up by only 30 percent.

The provincial administration for pricing also warned that with the price hikes, no more bridge or road tolls should be levied, and prices for using public transport vehicles in urban areas, such as public buses, taxis, will remain unchanged.
