CRT Approved to Peg out on Telecom

Launched with a total of 13.6 billion yuan of assets, China Railway Telecom (CRT) has been approved lately by relevant authoritative departments in China to peg out on developing fixed phone, Internet, data communication, IP phone and other related service businesses on the Chinese telecom market.

A telecom enterprise jointly run by 18 shareholders including 14 administrative bureaus of the Ministry of Railways, with complete technology and equipment and a staff of 65,000, CRT is known for having a wide setup in China's four municipalities and 25 provincial capital cities. Put at its service is a network of 65,000-km-long communication lines along the railways and 120,000-km long-distance LOC including 42,000km trunk optical cables and 4,593km of digital microwave in China.

So far, CRT has built a countrywide IP phone network in 28 Chinese cities and this is to be extended to include 100 others in China. With Internet service provided in 36 cities, it has a wireless paging system to cover 700 cities and has made up-to-date TV/phone services available in 70 large and medium-sized cities in China.
