Re-election Set on January 13 in Two Thai Provinces

Re-election in Maha Sarakham and Kanchanaburi provinces will be organized on January 13, Thailand's Election Commission (EC) announced in Bangkok Monday.

Yuwarat Kamolavej, election commissioner for administration, told reporters at a press conference that the commission made the decision after the evidences of election frauds during Saturday's national election have been found in the mentioned areas.

Meanwhile, Sawadi Chotipanitch, election commissioner for investigation, said that the commission would begin to consider and inspect qualifications of elected candidates Tuesday.

The powerful poll watching body will consider and inspect qualifications of elected candidates in 40 constituencies a day, and will endorse those who are found no evidences of vote buying and other frauds, he said.

There are 400 constituencies across the kingdom.

If forced by a time constraint, the commission might endorse all candidates who were elected first, and later suspended those who are found guilty of vote buying or other frauds, he noted.

The EC has pledged to complete its endorsement of all winning candidates who are found no evidences of vote buying or other frauds within 30 days after the general election.
