Jordan, Pakistan Pledge Full-Scale CooperationJordanian King Abdullah Bin Hussein and visiting Pakistan's Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf Monday agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields, particularly in trade, investment and information technologies.The two leaders reached consensus at a meeting which was centered on bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Middle East peace process. They stressed that the two countries should further consolidate their cooperation in the fields of science, technology, trade and investment to develop national economies. During the meeting, King Abdullah lauded what he called deep, strong and historical relations between the two countries and affirmed Jordan's keenness on consolidating its ties with Pakistan for the benefit of the two peoples. The two leaders agreed to immediately set up a mechanism to explore fields, in which economic cooperation could be increased, particularly possible joint investments in the economic zone in Jordan's southern harbor city of Aqaba. For his part, General Musharraf expressed satisfaction over the current status of the ties between Jordan and Pakistan, expressing keenness to further develop the relations which had been built on confidence and mutual respect Regarding the Middle East affairs, Abdullah and Musharraf pledged their support for the Palestinians to retrieve their legitimate rights, particularly the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. Officials from Jordan and Pakistan are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on scientific and technological cooperation during their detailed discussions on Tuesday. Musharraf arrived in Amman earlier Monday for his first official visit to the kingdom. Before coming to Amman, Musharraf visited Syria where he held similar talks with President Bashar al-Assad. He will fly to Lebanon on Tuesday, the last leg of his three- nation Mideast tour. |
