Macao Airport Sees Booming Traffic in 2000

The Macao International Airport had the best performance last year since it was put into operation in 1995, the latest statistics from the airport show.

The airport handled 3.24 million passengers in 2000, an increase of 23 percent over the previous year. And it was the first time that the annual number of passengers at the airport exceeded three million.

The booming of passenger traffic is believed to be partly related to the increasing influx of tourists along with improving tourism image of the region.

On the other hand, cargo traffic at the airport was 68,084 tons last year, which rose 28 percent over that in 1999.
