China to Issue New-Year Commemorative Coins

The People's Bank of China revealed Tuesday its plan for issuing gold and silver commemorative coins in the new year, according to which the China Gold Coin Incorporation will issue 36 types in nine categories.

According to the plan, there will be 19 designs of gold coins and 17 designs of silver coins, which will mainly feature giant pandas, Chinese folk myths, traditional Chinese paintings, the 50th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet Autonomous Region, Chinese grotto art, Chinese classic novels, Peking Opera, Chinese folk custom and the "year of the horse".

PBOC spokesman said that the issuing of the coins aims at carrying forward China's national culture.
