GE Launches Locally-Developed Spiral CAT in Shanghai

General Electric (GE), a world leader in CAT technology, recently launched its first locally developed CAT scanner with helix technology in Shanghai.

Only a few industrialized nations like the United States and Germany can produce such CAT scanners, which involve very complicated technology and high costs.

Chih Chen, president of the China District of the GE Medical System Group, said that this CAT scanner can produce good-quality pictures at a faster scanning speed.

CAT scanners involving helix technology can take fixed pictures without moving the patient's body.

This type of CAT scanner also has Internet outlets that support long-distance study and analysis.

About 400 such CAT scanners will be manufactured per year in Beijing in GE's first funded enterprise in China, 70 percent of which will be exported.
