Curriculum System to See Changes in Primary and Middle Schools

A reform centering on the courses and teaching materials is being carried out in primary and middle schools across the country, i.e. the curriculum system is going to be renewed, according to the sources from the central institution for educational research.

As reported, some "research-oriented" courses will be added to the current curriculum system so as to make the contents of the courses more comprehensive for primary and middle schools. That means one subject may include the knowledge of several other subjects, and stresses will be laid on the comprehensiveness in teaching in the primary and junior middle schools whereas that in high schools will be carried out according to divisions of the subjects.

The said reform will fall into two periods in practice: to complete the design, test and amendment of the new curriculum system from 2000 to 2005 and from 2005 to 2010 with the new system to be gradually put into operation on a nationwide scale.
