Collectives, Individuals Commended for Solving Major Robbery Case in Central China

Three collectives and 14 individuals were commended Monday, January 8, in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, for successfully investigating and solving a major robbery that occurred in Changde City, also in Hunan Province, on September 1 last year.

The three collectives are Changde City Bureau of Public Security, Yiyang City Bureau of Public Security and Changde Detachment of Hunan Provincial Armed Police Corps.

At a meeting today, a representative from Hunan Provincial Department of Public Security read out an order of commendation from the Ministry of Public Security that was signed by Minister Jia Chunwang.

In addition to diplomas, 10,000 yuan (US$1,204) was also given by the Ministry of Public Security as a bonus to the people and collectives, said local sources.

In the meantime, three other collectives and 42 other individuals were also cited for their aid in supporting the investigation of the robbery.

On September 1, a gang killed six people and seriously injured another in an attempt to rob a cash van from a local agricultural bank in Changde City.

After the incident, local police investigated the case. After 37 days, the police detained 40 suspects, solved 33 other cases related to such crimes as manslaughter and trading in guns, and confiscated 35 firearms, more than 4,000 bullets and one grenade. The police disbanded a criminal group headed by Zhang Jun.
