50 Postdoctoral Students Granted Kwan-cheng Wong Awards

The Kwan-cheng Wong Postdoctoral Students Foundation has granted fifty awards to postdoctoral students working at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Liu Xingyuan and 49 other postdoctoral students were each granted the award, and 10 other postdoctoral students won the CAS President's Prize for outstanding achievements.

The Kwan-cheng Wong Postdoctoral Students Foundation was established in 1997 with one million US dollars donated from an education fund named after the late Hong Kong entrepreneur Kwan-cheng Wong.

The fund annually gives 50 students 20,000 yuan (US$2,400) each as research funding.

The President's prize was first presented in 1998. Winners each receive 50,000 yuan (US$about 6,200) in research funding if they continue to work in the CAS after completing their studies.

The CAS now has some 1,000 postdoctoral students, about one quarter of the country's total, working in 102 work stations in the 84 institutes and other organizations.
