Beijing: SOE Reform Goal Achieved

By the end of 2000 Beijing had basically attainted its goals of the reform and difficulty relief of State-owned enterprises (SOEs) in three years, said Jin Shengguan, director of the Beijing Municipal Economic Committee (BMEC) at an industrial working conference held on January 5.

Of the 114 large and medium losing State-owned or holding enterprises on the static assessment list of the State Economic & Trade Commission, 92 have turned deficits into profits, accounting for 80.7 percent of the total. While that of the 400 ones under dynamic assessment, no more than 20 percent were still in the red.

Amongst the 58 backbone enterprises of local industries, 49, or 84.5 percent, have completed their structural reforms, with 81.6 percent backed by diversified investment channels. Of those directly under the jurisdiction of the municipal government, 113 have accomplished reforms, and of the 179 medium or small ones placed under county and district management, 92, or over 50 percent, have finished reforms.
