HK Foundation to Aid Poor in South China Province

The Kadoorie Foundation from Hong Kong will aid the poor in two counties of the remote southwest China province of Guizhou under an agreement signed in Guiyang Sunday.

The agreement was inked by China Charity Federation (CCF) president Yan Mingfu, representing the Kadoorie Foundation, and officials from the counties of Luodian and Haozhang.

The Hong Kong-based foundation will carry out a program of planting cash crops in Luodian, which is mainly inhabited by the Buyi Minority. The foundation plans to assist 300 poor families to plant 0.6 hectares of crops each. The project in Haozhang will help local people raise cattle by supplying low-interest loans. Total cost will amount to 2 million yuan (US$161,000s).

Established by the Hong Kong power Giant Kadoorie Group, the foundation is providing financial aid to Guizhou for the first time. Representatives of the foundation will travel to the two counties with staff from the CCF to see how the program operates.
