New Bank Notes Issued in Macao

New bank notes with the face value of ten patacas (US$1.25) were issued in Macao Monday.

The bank papers were issued respectively by the Bank of China Macao Branch and the Banco Nacional Ultramarino Macao Branch, with each providing ten million pieces.

Ten-pataca bank notes had been issued in Macao but was put out of circulation in 1999. The new ten-pataca notes retain the major design and size of the old ones, but anti-forgery features are better.

The current ten-pataca coins will remain circulated. But they may lose favor with users for being too heavy to be carried around.
