Yunnan Border Police Seize 1,300 kg of Drugs in 2000
Border police in Yunnan Province, southwest China, investigated 753 drug cases, seized 1,321 kg of drugs, and arrested 1,038 drug traffickers in 2000.
The province, which shares a 4,061-kilometer border with some Southeast Asian countries including Myanmar, has been designated by China as a target area for clamping down on the influx of drugs from other countries.
Last year, the number of cases involving attempted drug smuggling in body cavities and trafficking of drugs in large quantities increased, according to the police.
Yunnan police stepped up drug searches in railway stations, bus terminals, ports and hotels in the year.
