Universities, Enterprises to Join Efforts to Set up Market-oriented System

China's university-affiliated businesses are now developing at an annual rate of 30 percent, the head of China's Entrepreneur's Association said Monday, January 8.

A number of companies including the Peking University Founder Group and Qinghua University Tongfang Co. Ltd. have occupied leading places among China's high-tech enterprises, said Chen Jinhua, director of the association, at the New Century Enterprises Seminar, entitled "Dialogue Between Knowledge and Capital.

He stressed that more must be done to strengthen cooperation between universities and enterprises.

This year marks the start of China's Tenth Five-Year Plan -- the first Five-Year Plan of the new century. Enterprises and universities will play key roles in the plan, Chen noted.

Universities are the origin of knowledge and innovation, and enterprises are the channel for putting that knowledge into practice, he said.

Chen encouraged enterprises to establish engineering research centers and production promotion centers at universities.

He also advised schools to create favorable conditions to set up university scientific technology parks, which could play the role of "incubators of technology development" for the whole society.
