Universities in NW China to Set up Software Center

Five universities in northwest China's Gansu Province have signed an agreement with the city government of Lanzhou, capital of Gansu, on jointly setting up a software development center.

The five universities are Lanzhou University, Northwest China Normal University, Lanzhou Railway College, Gansu Engineering University and Northwest China College for Nationalities.

The center is aimed at promoting the development of the city's information technology, said a local official.

The universities will carry out a series of high-tech projects on university software research and development, and training programs of software professionals.

To support the center's development, the city government of Lanzhou will provide preferential investment and tax policies.
