Fudan, Bell Laboratory Set up Joint Laboratory
The renowned Bell Laboratory, part of Lucent Technology and the prestigious Fudan University located in Shanghai, signed a cooperation agreement January 6, on the establishment of a joint laboratory on information science and technology.
Under the agreement, the Information Science and Engineering College of Fudan University and the Elementary Science Research Institute of the Bell Laboratory will do advanced application research in the field of communications and computers.
Bell has kept a close relationship with China's research institutes while Fudan University has been academically strong in the study of electronic engineering and computer science.
CAS, Bell Co-build Communications Research Lab
Bell Labs Research China and Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) announced the establishment of a joint communications research lab in Beijing November 23.
``It is a win-win deal for us to set up the joint lab,'' said Yan Yixun, Chairman of China Network Communications and former vice-president of the CAS.
Fudan University , originally called Fudan Public School ,was founded in 1905. Fudan means " a new morning " literally in Chinese. Over 90 years old now, Fudan University has established its prestige both at home and abroad. It is composed of seven schools, including 35 departments, 67 undergraduate programs, 109 Master programs, 50 doctoral programs, 9 post doctoral mobile stations, 34 research institutes and 42 interdisciplinary research centers. Fudan University currently has 81 laboratories. There are 4,673 faculty and staff members at the University.
